H.M.S. Sheldrake was one of twelve Forester Class gunboats completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Built at a cost of £20,000.[3] She commissioned at Devonport on 16 December, 1875.[4]

By November, 1886, she was identified as one of forty-one vessels of various types the Navy had decided to dispose of due to their lack of practical value in the event of war.[5]
