H.M.S. Sappho was one of twenty-one Apollo class second-class cruisers completed in the early to mid 1890s.

Service

In earlier 1894, it was ordered that she would be one of four cruisers to have her old pattern 6-in guns replaced by new quick-firing models.[7]

She recommissioned at Portsmouth on 2 April, 1912 under Commander Knox for "Particular Service with First Fleet".[8][9]
