H.M.S. Sandhurst was the former civil ship Manipur, hired in November 1914 and purchased in 1915. She served as the dummy battleship Indomitable before being converted to a fleet repair ship.[5]

Service

Sandhurst completed conversion to a depot ship in September, 1916. She served at Scapa Flow from 1916 to 1918.[6]

She was re-commissioned on 5 July, 1926.[7]

She was re-commissioned at Malta on 14 January, 1929.[8]

She re-commissioned at Chatham on 22 July, 1931 and returned to work in the Mediterranean.[9]

Re-commissioned at Chatham on 25 July, 1935 for the Mediterranean.[10]

In September 1935, she returned to Chatham and then Devonport from the Mediterranean, where she had been replaced by the new depot ship Woolwich, and was placed under the command of Cdr. Trevylyan Michael Napier.[11]
