H.M.S. Proserpine was one of eleven Pelorus class cruisers completed for the Royal Navy between 1898 and 1901.

Service

Proserpine commissioned at Malta on 26 February, 1913 for service in the Mediterranean.^[7]

Commissioned at Malta by Tufton Percy Hamilton Beamish on 26 February, 1913,^[8] she left Malta for Corfu on 29 September, 1913 under his command.^[9]

The cruiser returned to Sheerness, arriving on Christmas Day, 1913 after spending three years in the Mediterranean, destined to be replaced on station by the light cruiser Weymouth.^[10] She was re-commissioned at Sheerness on 9 January, 1914.^[11]
