Service
Prince George was commissioned at Portsmouth on 26 November, 1896, by Captain Alfred A. C. Parr, for service in the Channel Squadron.[7]
Distinguishing Signs
In March 1914, it was ordered that the ship was to carry a single red band on after funnel,[8] but this order was rescinded within the month and she was to retain her present markings.[9]
Radio
As of 1901, she was slated to receive a "1 to 52" W/T set.[10]
Torpedoes
In 1904, in a competition to investigate how rapidly submerged tubes could be fired four times sequentially, starting with the tube loaded and the bar out, the ship's crew was able to do this in 6 minutes, 29 seconds. The best time was achieved by Cressy at 50.75 seconds, though times of 3-5 minutes were more typical.[11]
