H.M.S. Pioneer was one of eleven Pelorus class cruisers completed for the Royal Navy between 1898 and 1901.

She was transferred to the Australian Navy in 1912, becoming H.M.A.S. Pioneer.

Service

On 30 November, 1912, her officers and crew were appropriated to recommission the third class protected cruiser Pyramus in Australia.[7]

She re-commissioned at Sydney on 1 January, 1914. Presently, she began serving as a training ship for the Royal Australian Naval Reserve.[8]

Another source claims that Commander R.N.R. Thomas Wyburn Biddlecombe was in command c. 1910[24]
