H.M.S. Peterel was one of twenty-four "B" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".
Broken up in 1919, her name was eventually taken by a river gunboat launched in 1927.
Service
Peterel participated in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1901 soon after completion.[8]
In late 1905, she was one of eight destroyers in the First Division of the Channel Fleet's Destroyer Flotilla.[9] By mid-1906, this formation would be dubbed the First Destroyer Flotilla.
She was one of twenty-seven T.B.Ds. of the Portsmouth Flotilla to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1909.[10]
By March 1910, she was in the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla which was part of the Third Division, Home Fleet.
By April 1912, she was attached to with the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla — a patrol flotilla. She remained with them until at least mid-1913.[11]
When war broke out, Peterel was attached to the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla, a patrol flotilla in Home and Atlantic Waters. In July 1917 she moved to the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla under the Rear-Admiral commanding the East Coast of England. She served there until the end of the war, being sent to the Nore for deactivation around February 1919.
