H.M.S. Opal was one of six Emerald Class corvettes completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Commissioned at Sheerness on 13 March, 1883 under command of Captain Arthur Thomas Brooke on the Australia Station.[5]

She re-commissioned at Sydney on 27 October, 1886.[6]
