H.M.S. Mantua was a commercial liner converted for use as an Armed Merchant Cruiser in the Royal Navy.

Service

Commissioned on either 5[4] or 15 August, 1914,[5] and was placed under the command of Charles Tibbits and attached to the Template:UK-CD.

She grounded her on 26-7 April, 1915 and Tibbits was asked to exercise greater caution in future.[6]

In October, 1916, she left the 10 C.S. and eventually found herself attached to the Ninth Cruiser Squadron.

Armament

She was armed with:[7]

  • eight 4.7-in guns
  • two 6-pdrs
