H.M.S. Mallard was one of the Royal Navy's eleven "D" class destroyers.
Service
Swordfish was commissioned at Chatham on 6 January, 1899 by Lieutenant and Commander Alan Cameron Bruce to take the place of Mallard in the Medway Instructional Flotilla.[9]
She arrived at Sheerness with six other destroyers from the North Sea on 1 October, 1901.[10] Mallard was to then be replaced in the Medway Instructional Flotilla by Sturgeon, [11] her Lieutenant and Commander Hugh Percival Buckle transferring into Sturgeon.
In mid-1913, she was at Malta.[12] In November, she was ordered to return to England,[13] apparently being entrusted to Chief Gunner Michael Horrigan for the voyage.
