Service
In late 1920, submarines M 1, M 2 and M 3 were allocated to submarine reserve group "C" at Portsmouth, under the collective command of Commander Hubert Vaughan-Jones and tender to Dolphin.[6]
Reduced to Reserve on 20 August, 1924.[7]

- Commander Hubert Vaughan-Jones, 10 December, 1920[10] – 18 July, 1921 (and in command of other two "M" class)
- Commander Charles G. Brodie, 30 March, 1921[11] – 12 July, 1922[12]
- Lieutenant-Commander Edward G. Stanley, 10 July, 1922[13] – 1 September, 1924
- Lieutenant-Commander Alec M. Carrie, 25 November, 1924[14] – 12 November, 1925 (and in command of M 2, died in loss of M 1)
