Service

On 29 August, 1905, as the Devonport Reserve Flotilla engaged in exercises at Torbay, Leopard's steering gear malfunctioned as the formation was being altered, causing her to strike Boyne in the stern. Liffey under the command of Lieutenant Hugh Percival Buckle escorted the two damaged destroyers back to Devonport.[7]

In mid-1906, Liffey was with the Channel Fleet's Third Destroyer Flotilla.

In 1910, she was in the Second Destroyer Flotilla.

In mid-1913, she was active with the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla, a patrol flotilla.[8]

Around September 1917 she moved to the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla.

In January, 1918 she was one of eight "Rivers" to move to the First Destroyer Flotilla.
