H.M.S. Hyacinth (1898)
Pendant Number: none[1]
Builder: London & Glasgow[2]
Laid down: 27 Jan, 1897[3]
Launched: 27 Oct, 1898[4]
Commissioned: 3 Sep, 1900[5]
Sold: Nov, 1923[6]
Fate: to Cohen, Swansea[7]

The second-class protected cruiser H.M.S. Hyacinth was one of three Highflyer class cruisers completed in 1899 and 1900.

Service

In 1910, Hyacinth was the best gunnery ship of East Indies Station, scoring 40.09. This attainment was undercut, slightly, by the fact she was the only ship from the station competing.[8]

In mid-1913, she was flagship at the Cape of Good Hope.[9]

On 27 March, 1915, Vice-Admiral Herbert G. King-Hall hoisted his flag in her as flagship on Cape of Good Hope Station.[10]

She paid off at Portsmouth on 14 August, 1919.[11]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.
