Completed in 1889, H.M.S. Howe was one of six Admiral class battleships built for the Royal Navy. She served until at least 1904 and was finally scrapped around 1910.
Service
Howe was launched on 29 April, 1885, by Miss Keith Stewart, niece of Admiral Sir W. Houston Stewart. The ship's engines were constructed by Messrs. Humphrys and Tennant.[5]
Howe received the last of a complete set of 67-ton guns on 2 July on a temporary basis merely to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1889 under the command of Captain Compton E. Domvile.[6]
Howe participated in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1890 as part of the Hostile Fleet tasked with threatening British trade routes.
The ship ran onto rocks in Spain's Ferrol Harbour on 2 November, 1892. The Neptune Salvage Company received £35,000 for removing the ship, and the Spanish government received £6,472 for labour and materials. Rental of a steamer, salaries for seamen and what can only be considered bribes brough the total to £44,435.[7] An overhaul at Chatham Dockyard to make good the damage doubled this cost.
In the Annual Manoeuvres of 1901 she was part of Fleet "B", loosely representing the British side.

In 1901, though three sisters were listed as equipped or slated to be equipped with W/T kits, she is not mentioned.[8]
