H.M.S. Heliotrope was one of twelve Azalea Class sweeping sloops completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

She was assigned to serve as one of the sloops attached to the Mediterranean Fleet without a flotilla designation, from some time in November, 1915 to some time in August, 1917.[6] She then became one of six or seven sloops listed as being part of the British Aegean Squadron, without a flotilla designation.[7] By mid-1918, this formation would obtain the designation of the Ninth Sloop Flotilla until the formation was disbanded in December, 1918. She and Spiraea left to become two of six sloops on the Black Sea and Marmora Division.[8]

She left Gibraltar for Portsmouth on 25 November 1920[9] and paid off 15 December, 1920, part of the Reserve Fleet in Portsmouth.[10]

After six years in reserve, she was refitted at Pembroke Dockyard for hot weather service[11] and commissioned on 15 December, 1926 for the America and West Indies Station.[12]

She was re-commissioned at Bermuda on 12 June, 1929 for service on the America and West Indies Station.[13] She re-commissioned at Bermuda on 26 September, 1931 for service on the America and West Indies Station.[14]

The ship was paid off into Reserve at Portsmouth on 31 May, 1933.[15]
