H.M.S. Hazard (1894)
Pendant Number: P.38 (1914)
P.96 (Jan 1918)[1]
Builder: Pembroke Dockyard[2]
Ordered: Naval Defence Act
Laid down: 1 December, 1892[3]
Launched: 17 February, 1894[4]
Completed: 24 July, 1895[5]
Sunk: 28 January, 1918[6]

H.M.S. Hazard was completed as a torpedo gunboat, but was converted to serve as a submarine depot ship before the Great War.

Service

Hazard "lost a torpedo while at practice" shortly before Christmas in 1899. "It struck a steam launch in attendance near the target and sank her. Fortunately the crew of the boat escaped injury."[7]

Hazard converted to a depot ship in 1901.[8]

She served from Dover throughout the war until she was lost after colliding with the S.S. Western Australia on 28 January, 1918.[9][10] Dittmer and Colledge erroneously list her as being sold in August 1924.[11]
