H.M.S. Harpy was one of sixteen destroyers of the Beagle class.
Service
In the first half of 1912[Inference] while under command of Commander Harold Victor Dundas, Harpy collided with the training ship Caroline.[7]
In mid-1913, she was part of the Third Destroyer Flotilla.[8]
At the outset of the war, all sixteen Beagles were assigned to the Fifth Destroyer Flotilla, operating in the Mediterranean. While based at Mudros, she was involved in a skirmish on 29 September, 1916 which resulted in her captain, Hugh Turnour England being wounded in both legs and invalided from the ship, being replaced by Wellwood G. C. Maxwell. A report of the action reads as follows:[9]

Submitted. Herewith are reports on a cattle raid carried out by the Anatonian irregulars on 28th September in Gulf of Iassus, Gulf of Mandelyah.
Commander H.T. England in Harpy was in command of the supporting force which consisted of Harpy, Mosquito, Trawlers 1844 (St Clair), 1744 (Slasher), 258 [Richmond Castle In footnote] and motor caaique St Nicholas.
Harpy came under heavy rifle fire off Chulukioi and I very much regret that Commander England was severely wounded in both legs below the knee, the bones of one leg being broken.
The Captain of Harpy was wounded about 1 p.m. and turned over the command to Mosquito, but refused to allow the ship to return to Port Laki until the irregulars he was supporting were safely off, about 3.00 p.m.
I ordered Harpy to Mudros the same evening. Staff Surgeon of Latona being sent to look after Commander England on the passage...
In September, 1917, Harpy went to the Second Destroyer Flotilla on the Coast of Ireland Station, along with the Beagle and Wolverine.
In May 1918, Harpy moved to the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla, which was operating out of Devonport.
I am unable to find any further information on Harpy after Searles-Wood vacated command.
