H.M.S. H 42 was one of forty-four "H" class submarines completed for the Royal Navy in the 1910s.

Service

H 42 was lost after being rammed by Versatile while submerged some five miles off Europa Point near Gibraltar. An "impressive" memorial service was held at the Anglican church in Gibraltar the next day, on 24 March 1922. The tragedy was the second submarine accident to attend the oging cruise of the Atlantic Fleet.[6]
