H.M.S. E 45 was one of fifty-seven "E" class submarines completed in Britain before and during the Great War.

Service

The British felt that on 19 October, 1917, E 45 sank UC 79 at 52deg 16' N., 2deg 46' E., but later they would learn that this U-boat was not lost until 1918.[6]

By May 1920, she was one of nine (later eight) "E" class boats of Group "J" in reserve at Rosyth, tender to Dolphin.[7]
