H.M.S. Dreadnought was a turret battleship of the Royal Navy completed in 1879.

There was, of course, a modern battleship called Dreadnought launched in 1906.

Construction & Service

In November 1880, the ship was being made reday to receive a second-class torpedo boat, which would reside on her hurricane deck in place of her second 37-foot pinnace. Her derrick was to be replaced by a steel one to bear the added weight of the T.B.. At the same time, she was being equipped with electrical firing circuits.[6]

Dreadnought commissioned at Portsmouth on 14 October, 1884.[7]

She was brought to full complement to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1896 under the command of Anson Schomberg.[8][9][10]
