H.M.S. Castor was the first of four Cambrian class light cruisers completed in 1915 and 1916.

Service

She fought at the Battle of Jutland as flag cruiser of the Eleventh Destroyer Flotilla.[7]

She recommissioned at Chatham on 18 April, 1920.[8]

Castor re-commissioned with reduced complement on 23 September, 1924.[9]

Re-commissioned with a reserve crew on 22 December, 296.

Re-commissioned at the Nore on 1 April, 1927.

Re-commissioned in reserve at Devonport on 22 July, 1928 for duty with the Third Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean, but she wound up temporarily on the China Station.[10]

Re-commissioned in reserve at Devonport on 22 July, 1930.[11]

Reduced to extended notice at Devonport on 2 November, 1931.[12]

Alterations

Castor was fitted with a director in January, 1918. This alteration required her pole mast to be replaced with a tripod mast for greater rigidity.[13]

Equipment

In 1919, she was selected to receive one of the first five Renouf Torpedo Tactical Instrument Type As.[14]
