Service

The ship completed to full complement at Devonport on 18 June, 1907.[9]

In 1908-10, at least, she was in the Second Cruiser Squadron.[10]

In or around September 1912, Carnarvon collided with King Alfred while turning over gunnery targets. Captain John Douglas Edwards of King Alfred was faulted for the mishap, as his arrangements for exchanging these materials "were not good."

In mid-1913, she was flagship to the Rear-Admiral in the Home Fleets, out of Devonport.[11] During this time, it was decided to purchase a Type 9 Cruiser Auxiliary set for her.[12]
