H.M.S. Canterbury was one of four Cambrian class light cruisers completed in 1915 and 1916.

Torpedoes

In mid-1920, Canterbury was to receive 21-in Mark II***** S.L. torpedoes.[7]

Service

She fought at the Action of 23 July, 1916, a running night action where she pursued a superior force of German destroyers.

Canterbury was fitted with a director in March, 1918. This alteration required her pole mast to be replaced with a tripod mast for greater rigidity.[8]

She recommissioned at Portsmouth on 15 November, 1919.[9]

Canterbury re-commissioned on 3 January, 1925.[10]

Re-commissioned on 11 November, 1926 for duty with the Second Cruiser Squadron in the Atlantic Fleet.[11]

Re-commissioned on 11 November, 1928 for duty with the Second Cruiser Squadron in the Atlantic Fleet.[12]

Reduced to Reserve on 30 January, 1931.[13]
