Vice-Admiral (retired) Guy Ouchterlony Twiss, R.N. (19 October, 1834 – 7 October, 1918) served in the Royal Navy.

His son, Guy Kemble Twiss would be killed in the Great War while in command of the destroyer Tartar.

Life & Career

Twiss was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 22 February, 1856.

Twiss was promoted to the rank of Commander on 11 April, 1866.

Twiss was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1876. He was appointed in command of Belleisle on 28 March, 1885 and joined the ship on 8 April at Dublin. As he neared the end of his appointment on 23 January, 1888, he suffered an inflammation of the kidneys, requiring him to cede command of the ship for 5-6 weeks to Commander Pollard.

Twiss was placed on the Retired List on account of age on 19 October, 1889.

Twiss was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on the Retired List on 10 September, 1891.

Twiss was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 16 September, 1897.
