Commander Guy L'Estrange Mansfield Sturges, (4 October, 1899 – 23 February, 1941) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Sturges's guardian listed when he joined the Royal Navy in September 1912 was a clergyman, who died at some point during his naval service, at which point he named his mother.
Sturges served through most of the war in the battlecruiser Indomitable, fighting in her at the Battle of Jutland. On 28 January, 1918, he was ordered to attend a course for destroyer gunnery at H.M.S. Excellent, followed by a course in Torpedo Control at H.M.S. Vernon. On 4 March 1918 he was appointed to the destroyer Rosalind. He would serve in her until 20 March, 1919.[1]
Sturges was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1919.[2]
Sturges was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1927.[3]
Sturges was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1934.[4]
World War II
Sturges died in action, possibly as part of the R.A.F..
