Commander (emergency list) George Sarsfield Walsh, R.N. (25 August, 1859 – 31 March, 1939) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Walsh was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 11 July 1882.

Walsh resigned his commission on 14 May, 1891.

He was placed on the Emergency List with his commission restored in 1902 and designated a Commander on 11 July, 1905.

Although it seems unlikely given no indication that he was trained for submarines, one Navy List indicates that Walsh was appointed in command of the submarine A 9 on 20 February, 1914.[1] I have my suspicions that this was a clerical error of some kind.

On 21 January, 1915 Walsh was appointed to Eagle, additional, for service on the staff of R/A Stileman for duties in connection with armed yachts, trawlers and drifters of the Auxiliary Patrol.

He reverted to the Emergency List from 1 June 1919.
