Engineer Vice-Admiral George Preece (22 April, 1884 – 5 January, 1945) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Monmouth, Preece was awarded the Newman Memorial Prize.
Preece was promoted to the rank of Engineer Lieutenant on 1 November, 1906.
Appointed to serve in the battlecruiser Lion on 9 August, 1913, he would serve in her during the Great War until his successor was appointed in early 1915.
Preece was promoted to the rank of Engineer Lieutenant-Commander on 1 February, 1914.
Preece was promoted to the rank of Engineer Commander on 24 January, 1917.
He served in the light cruiser H.M.S. Delhi from 21 May 1921.
Preece was promoted to the rank of Engineer Captain on 30 June, 1925.
Preece was promoted to the rank of Engineer Rear-Admiral on 9 June, 1930.
Preece was promoted to the rank of Engineer Vice-Admiral on 11 September, 1936.
World War II
He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 23 March, 1942.
