Admiral SIR George Lambart Atkinson-Willes, K.C.B., Royal Navy (13 July, 1847 – 25 December, 1921) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Atkinson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1886.[1]
He was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to Queen Victoria dated 13 January, 1899, vice Rolfe.[2]
He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 19 February, 1901, vice Harris.[3] On 7 May, 1902, he succeeded Rear-Admiral Sir Baldwin Wake Walker as Second-in-Command of the Home Squadron.[4] He hoisted his flag in the battleship Resolution in dock at Devonport on 7 May, and at sunset his flag was struck and he went on leave.[5]
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 24 May, 1905, vice Noel.[6]
Atkinson-Willes was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 5 November, 1908, vice Rawson.[7]
