George Bingham Powell

Vice-Admiral George Bingham Powell, R.N., Retired (12 January, 1870 – 27 May, 1952) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Life & Career

Powell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on [1] Powell was specially promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1903 for services in China in 1900.[2]

On 31 December 1910, Powell was promoted to Captain.

He was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Gibraltar in October 1912.

Great War

Powell was appointed to command H.M.S. Devonshire on 10 November, 1917.[3]

Post-war

Powell was appointed in command of the battleship Monarch on 29 August, 1919.[4]

Powell was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 16 June, 1921.[5]

Powell was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 8 July, 1926.[6]

He died on 27 May, 1952 of a coronary occlusion.
