Commander Frederic Gerald Stuart Peile, R.N. (4 January, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Navy as a navigating officer. His career took a headlong stumble at the end of the war, seemingly due to alcohol.
Life & Career
Born in Lucknow, India, Peile gained eleven half months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Peile was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1902.
Peile was awarded the Shadwell Testimonial in 1906, either for charts of a Fijian Harbour drafted in 1905 or possibly for later charts of the Kattegat, Baltic and "Belts"[?]
Peile was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1910.
Peile was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914.
Peile was appointed in command of Rinaldo on 21 June, 1918, but this was cancelled as late as September 1918, as on 28 August 1918, Peile was found in possession of a whiskey bottle while in Chatham Hospital.
Placed on Retired List 11 September 1918 as medically unfit, not to be granted a step in rank in reaching age 45.
