Captain Frank Lucius Pinney (2 December, 1874 – 5 December, 1945) served in the United States Navy. He was one of the Navy's pioneers in the development of the submarine.

Life & Career

Frank Lucius Pinney was born in Connecticut on 2 December, 1874.[1] Pinney was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy from his home state and officially entered the U.S. Navy as a Naval Cadet on 6 April, 1894.[2]

Pinney was promoted to the rank of Ensign on 1 April, 1900.[3]

Pinney was appointed to command the torpedo boat Dahlgren on 24 October, 1902, with additional duties supervising the Holland Torpedo Boat Company's construction of the Navy's second and third submarines, Adder and Moccasin.[4]

Pinney was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 4 February, 1904.[5]
