Ernest Wigram

Vice-Admiral Ernest Wigram, C.M.G., D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (16 April, 1877 – 29 October, 1944) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Life & Career

Wigram was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1899.[1]

Great War

Wigram was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1915.[2]

He was in command of the monitor Prince Eugene during bombardment operations in August 1915.[3]

He was made captain of the armoured cruiser Carnarvon in March 1919.[4]

Post-War

He was appointed captain of Ramillies in September 1925.[5]

Wigram was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George V on 7 July, 1926,[6] promoted to Rear-Admiral on 7 August, 1926, and was placed on the retired list on 8 August.[7] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 2 April, 1931.[8]
