Admiral Ernest Gillbe Barton, Royal Navy, Retired (20 October, 1861 – 29 January, 1938) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Barton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1884.[1]

Barton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1897.[2]

Barton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1904.[3]

He was appointed in command of the Royal Oak on 15 July, 1905.[4]

On 1 January, 1907, Barton was temporarily appointed in command of H.M.S. Victorious.[5] He was appointed in command of Black Prince on 5 January, 1909.[6]

Retirement

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 15 July, 1915, vice Grant, and placed on the Retired List at his own request on 16 July.[7] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 3 November, 1919,[8] and to Admiral on 1 August, 1924.[9]
