Ernest Edward Lowe

Lieutenant-Commander Ernest Edward Lowe, D.S.C., R.N. (12 October, 1866 – 31 October, 1954) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Lowe was promoted to the rank of Gunner on 20 April, 1897.

Gunner Lowe was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross on 1 July, 1901, in recognition of his services in South Africa.[1]

Lowe was specially promoted to Chief Gunner specially for War Services in South Africa on 20 April, 1910.[2]

He was promoted to Lieutenant on 27 June, 1912.[3]

Lowe was appointed in command of the destroyer Velox on 9 March, 1914.[4]

On 29 July, 1914, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Spiteful.[5]

On 12 December, 1914, he was appointed Lieutenant in Command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 116, remaining in her through the end of the war.[6]

Lowe was appointed in command of the special service vessel H.M.S. Skylark, attached to Vernon from 22 February 1919 until being appointed in command of the tender Redwing, formerly the Sir Charles Pasley, on 26 July, 1919.

Lowe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 27 June, 1920. He was retired on account of age on 12 October, 1921.
