The Emergency List was a list of retired Royal Navy officers who had resigned their commission, but who volunteered to serve again in the event of an emergency.
History
The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty instituted the Emergency List by the provisions of the Order in Council of 13 May, 1901. The officers selected for the List would bear the date of their original seniority, but would not receive pay or pension or promotion (except as provided for in Order in Council of 11 July, 1905) when not employed.
