Edward Leslie Dayrell Bartley

Commander (retired) Edward Leslie Dayrell Bartley, (2 March, 1896 – 7 October, 1969) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Lt. Col. E. B. Bartley of the Royal Engineers.

His first appointment was to the battleship Hibernia on 15 September, 1913. He remained in her through 8 November, 1915. He served next in T.B. 9. In April, 1916, he was assigned to an illegible destroyer and then on 4 May transferred to Jackal, in which he served until March 1917.

Bartley was made a probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant on 1 March, 1917 and confirmed in the rank on 19 April.

Bartley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1917.

He relinquished his commission in the R.A.F. on 23 November, 1918.

Bartley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 November, 1925.

World War II

Bartley was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 2 March, 1941.
