Lieutenant Donald Roy Macdonald, R.N. (27 September, 1888 – 15 October, 1914) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Oxford, Macdonald listed his mother as his guardian as he joined the navy in May 1903.[1]
Macdonald was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 30 November, 1907.[2]
On 9 October 1908, he was appointed to the destroyer Kale. In May 1909, he filed a request that he be removed from destroyer service, as he found himself unsuited for it. Accordingly, on 1 August, he was appointed to the battleship Irresistible. Her Captain Eyres opined that Macdonald "takes little pains." In May 1910, he was appointed to the armoured cruiser Lancaster, in which he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1910.[3]
Macdonald was treated at Plymouth Naval Hospital for mumps between 20 March and 15 April, 1914.[4]
Macdonald was appointed to the first class protected cruiser Hawke as soon as war broke out and died when she was torpedoed and lost on 15 October, 1914.[5]
