Denis Vaughan Sprague

Commander Denis Vaughan Sprague, (5 November, 1902 – 4 July, 1940) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Sprague was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1923.[1]

Sprague was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1933.[2]

Sprague was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1939. He was appointed in command of the submarine Thames on 27 December, 1939.[3]

He was killed while attempting to take control of the French submarine monitor Surcouf in Plymouth harbour, having been mortally wounded by the submarine's doctor.
