On 4 July 1915, appointed to the [[Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport]] as first officer.  On 23 August, 1915, McDowell was again Court Martialed for being drunk in [[Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport]] on the 14th.  He pleaded guilty and was dismissed the ship and docked a years' seniority.  He went to the Nore for minesweeping duties, and spent the remainder of the war there.

Commander (retired) Daniel McDowell, D.S.O., R.N. (19 July, 1879 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Waterford. McDowell entered the Navy direct from Conway.

McDowell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 26 June, 1902.

Court Martialed in 1908 for making a disparaging remark about Commander T. D. Pratt.

McDowell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 26 June, 1910.

On 4 July 1915, appointed to the Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport as first officer. On 23 August, 1915, McDowell was again Court Martialed for being drunk in Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport on the 14th. He pleaded guilty and was dismissed the ship and docked a years' seniority. He went to the Nore for minesweeping duties, and spent the remainder of the war there.

Post-War

McDowell commanded the trawler Samuel Drake from 1 August 1919 to around mid-November, when he moved to H.M.T. Christopher Deron [?], which he commanded until 4 May 1920.

McDowell was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 6 July, 1923.
