Admiral Cresswell John Eyres, D.S.O., O.B.E., Royal Navy, Retired (20 March, 1862 – 12 October, 1949) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Eyres was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 20 September, 1882.[1]

Eyres was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1897.[2]

Captain

Eyres was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1903.[3]

He was appointed in command of the Spartiate on 14 July, 1905.[4]

He was appointed in command of Jupiter on 18 June, 1907.[5]

He was appointed in command of the battleship Irresistible on 1 May, 1908.[6]

Eyres was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George V on 20 September, 1912, vice Campbell.[7] He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 23 June, 1913.[8]

Great War

In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, Eyres was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 18 December, 1914.[9] On that same day, he was appointing in command of motor boats in Belgian waters, remaining in that role until 11 June, 1915 when he was discharged to retired pay. Nonetheless, he was appointed to Europa to serve as a beachmaster for Gallipoli operations, as a Captain in the Royal Naval Reserve.[10]

Eyres was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 1 September, 1918.[11] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 1 June, 1922.[12]
