Vice-Admiral (retired) Christopher Russell Payne, C.B.E. (18 September, 1874 – 1 February, 1952) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Life & Career
The son of a reverend, Payne gained twelve months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Payne was promoted to the rank of Captain on 14 October, 1895.
Payne was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1905.
Payne was appointed in command of the destroyer Crusader on 21 October, 1909.[1]
Payne was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1912.
On 1 September 1913, he was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Vindictive.[2]
Payne was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Suffolk on 12 May, 1917.[3]
Post-War
From 1918-1921, he was Captain of H.M.S. Vernon.
In April, 1922, he was appointed in command of the battleship Malaya.
Payne was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 15 January, 1923 but was placed on Retired List due to non-service on 16 July, 1925. He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 22 February, 1928.
