Commander (retired) Charles Richard de Bunsen Loftus Townshend, (4 April, 1896 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Charles L. Townshend, Esq., landed proprietor.

Townshend was appointed to Thunderer as his first ship, and remained in her until 19 January, 1916. He then spent three months in H.M.S. Ajax before being transferred to Bristol, awaiting her commissioning, which occurred on 4 May.

After two months in the heavy cruiser London, he was appointed back to H.M.S. Ajax, serving in her from 24 October 1916 until 26 July, 1918.

Townshend was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1918. He finished out his wartime service in Furious.

Townshend was placed on the Retired List at his own request dated 10 November, 1922.

Townshend was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1926.

World War II

Townshend was promoted to the rank of Commander on 3 September, 1945.

He reverted to Retired List on 23 July, 1947.
