Charles Philip Giffin Hicks

Captain Charles Philip Giffin Hicks, (20 April, 1845 – 25 December, 1896) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hicks was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 June, 1866.

Hicks was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 Deceember, 1879.

Hicks was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1887. In November 1890, he was criticised for allowing Serapis to come too close (perhaps) to a light. On the positive side, on 21 June 1891, Admiral Commerell remarked that, "the Serapis is, in my opinion, he best of the troopships."

Hicks died of apoplexy.
