Rear-Admiral Charles Dominick Burke (24 January, 1882 – 18 March, 1952) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Burke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1902.[1]

1905 through January, 1913 saw him appointed to a series of armoured cruisers as torpedo officer, in the midst of which he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 September, 1910 while serving in his first capital ship, the battleship Cæsar. He was appointed to Defence on 20 February, 1912 and then to the battlecruiser Princess Royal. Although this was originally intended as a temporary appointment, he was to remain her torpedo officer throughout the Great War, leaving her on 14 November, 1918.[2]

Great War

Burke was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1914.[3]

Burke was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1919.[4]

Burke was appointed in command of the light cruiser Centaur on 31 December, 1922. When Centaur paid off on 4 October, 1923, Burke was appointed in command of the light cruiser Cleopatra.[5]

In November, 1928, he was appointed in command of the battleship Marlborough.

Burke was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 3 July, 1932 and was placed on the Retired List the next day at his own request.[6]

World War II

Burke was appointed to Eaglet II as a Commodore, Second Class R.N.R. on 16 September, 1939. In December, he was working with the London Convoy Pool, and 1940 found him switched over to the Liverpool Convoy Pool. His appointment was terminated on 26 December, 1944 and the next day he was reverted to the Retired List as medically unfit.[7]
