Captain Charles Archibald Wise Wrightson, C.B.E. (17 July, 1874 – 7 February, 1953) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Having passed out of Britannia with an additional eight months' seniority, Wrightson received his first naval appointment on 7 January, 1891 when he was assigned to the Rodney of the Channel Squadron. On 17 March, 1891, Rodney was at Gibraltar when S.S. Utopia was

Wrightson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 22 June, 1897.[1]

Wrightson was appointed in command of the river gunboat Woodcock on the China Station on 16 March, 1903, but he did not take over command until 25 June. He was superseded in command on 4 April, 1905 and was back in England on 12 September, 1905.[2]

Wrightson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1909.[3]

Wrightson was placed in command of the special service vessel Imogene in the Mediterranean on 25 May, 1911. He was superseded in command on 17 June, 1913.[4]

Wrightson was appointed in command of the destroyer Avon on 30 January, 1914.[5]

He was appointed in command of the destroyer Recruit and the Nore Local Defence Flotilla on 6 April, 1914.[6][7]

Following the loss of Recruit in April, 1915, on 26 May Wrightson was placed in command of Colleen, and for special duties in command of the Queenstown Torpedo Boat Flotilla. On 6 October, he was reduced to being second-in-command of Colleen, but remained in command of the T.B. flotilla while picking up additional special duties with Net Drifters.[8]

Wrightson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1917.[9]

On 7 January, 1919, Wrightson was appointed in command of the scout cruiser Blanche.[10]

He was appointed in command of the light cruiser Dunedin on 25 March, 1920.[11]

Wrightson was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 15 July, 1922.[12]
