Captain (retired) Cecil Lewis Howe, C.B.E. (20 May, 1896 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Howe's father was the Colonel commanding the [illeg] York & Lancaster Regiment in India.[1]

Howe served in Hercules from January, 1911 to February, 1915. He was in the destroyer Thrasher from February, 1915 to June 1916. He transferred to Victor later in 1916. When Victor paid off on 24 March 1917 he went to Portsmouth for a course in Torpedo Control. He then served in Springbok until November 1917 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1917 (adjusted).[2]

Howe finished the war in the destroyer Lucifer. In February 1919 he was appointed to the light cruiser Carysfort.[3]

In 1921, he received training as an aerial gunnery observer. In April, 1922, he was appointed to the aircraft carrier Argus as an observer. Before 1926, he would be an observer in the carriers Hermes, Eagle, and Furious.[4]

Howe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1925.[5]

Howe was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1931.[6]

World War II

He received his C.B.E. for services with the Eighth Army in Egypt.[7]

Howe was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Captain on 20 May, 1946.[8]
