Commander Bryan Gouthwaite Scurfield, (7 August, 1902 – 11 April, 1945) served in the Royal Navy.

As with many men born c. 1899 or later, his Service Records at The National Archives do not reflect activity between 1931 and 1939 or so.

Life & Career

Scurfield's skills in French earned him the Ryder Memorial Prize as a Sub-Lieutenant.

Scurfield was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1926.

Scurfield was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1934.[Fact Check]

Scurfield was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1938.

Scurfield was killed by strafing from Allied aircraft while a prisoner of war.
