Commander SIR Aylmer Newton George Firebrace, C.B.E., K.T., R.N. (17 June, 1886 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Southsea.

Firebrace was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 July, 1906.[1]

He was appointed to Indomitable as her Lieutenant (G) on 14 March, 1912.[2]

Firebrace was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 July, 1914.[3]

Awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for lifesaving at sea in 1915.

Firebrace was appointed to Centurion to serve as her gunnery officer on 30 July, 1914.[4] He stayed in this appointment until 21 June, 1918.

Firebrace was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917. On 21 June, 1918, he left Centurion for a posting at Chatham Gunnery School, where he remained until he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 31 August, 1919.

In mid 1920, he was at Chatham Royal Naval Barracks, leading a group of about 50 volunteer cadets.[5]

Firebrace was knighted, gazetted 1 January, 1945.
