Captain (retired) Arthur Welland Lowis (24 March, 1875 – 17 July, 1938) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career
Lowis was born in Calcutta the son of Colonel Lowis of the Royal Artillery. He gained ten months' time on passing out of Britannia in December, 1890.[1]
Lowis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 September, 1896.[2]
Lowis was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1908.[3]
Lowis was admitted to Haslar Hospital on 26 June, 1911 for a fracture to his right tibia. Found fit 27 October.[4]
Lowis was admitted to Plymouth Hospital on 4 November 1913 for a sprined right knee. Found fit 11 December.[5]
On 6 August, 1914, Lowis was appointed in command of the troopship H.M.S. Dufferin.
On 10 March 1915, Lowis was reported from Egypt to have been slightly wounded while dismantling a mine.[6]
In December, 1915, Lowis was ordered to leave Dufferin and take up command of Clio, in which appointment he would also be considered second-in-command of the Red Sea Patrol. His services in the conflict in Arabia and at Aden were gazetted.[7]
Post-War
Lowis was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 28 November, 1923.[8]
