Commander (retired) Arthur Vernon Hemming, R.N. (28 April, 1884 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hemming was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 4 September, 1914.

Hemming was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 4 September, 1922.

Hemming was appointed in command of the destroyer Garland on 24 July, 1918.[1]

Post-War

On 31 October, 1919, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Rob Roy.[2]

After a career with fairly good evaluations, Hemming received a dismal one from Captain Holt in 1928 which noted his lack of "any kind of leadership." Commodore Egerton offered a defensive counterpoint to this, but allowed that, indeed, he also found Hemming "somewhat slow."

Hemming was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Commander on account of age on 28 April, 1929. He applied for service in the Colonial Office. In 1936, he began work with the Minstry of Agriculture and Fisheries. By 1938, he was a Fishery Inspector.
